When temperatures start to rise, standard artificial turf can reach 170° F. An egg can fry on pavement with as little as 140° F. Under the same conditions, COOLPLAY remains about as cool as natural grass.

Safety Temperature

The plant-based infill absorbs natural moisture and slowly releases it back into the atmosphere in an evaporative cycle similar to natural grass. This along with the inherent low bulk density of the organic material are the only two critical factors that significantly reduce turf temperatures. The FIFA Method 14 test classifies Greenplay as a Category 1, same as grass at <122°F.

Safety Abrasion

Some landscape turf can be abrasive. This can be an issue with children running and sliding on the lawn. COOLPLAY uses a proprietary fibre formula that reduces the abrasiveness of the surface to be more like grass. The abrasive index of natural grass is rated as 20 (ASTM F1505), Greenplay's average rating is 21.

Stability - Infill Matrix

Greenplay utilizes a proprietary production technique to fortify the blend with additional natural fibers that create a matrix within the infill layer, which binds and stabilizes itself within the turf fibers. Once settled, this cohesive matrix provides unmatched stability.
