Putting Green Maintenance Guide
Keep your backyard putting green rolling true with simple brushing, infill care, debris removal, and seasonal maintenance. Designed for long‑term performance and consistent stimp speeds.
1. Regular Brushing (Most Important)
Brush the green every 1–2 weeks using a stiff‑bristle broom or power broom. This keeps fibres upright and ensures consistent ball roll.
- Brush against the grain to lift fibres
- Brush with the grain to smooth the surface
- Brush in circles to blend high‑traffic areas
2. Infill Top‑Ups (Controls Stimp Speed)
Putting greens use specialized infill to control stimp speed. Over time, infill settles and may require light top‑ups.
- Add infill to increase speed
- Brush aggressively to slow speed
- Top‑ups typically needed every 12–24 months
This diagram shows how infill depth affects ball roll speed and surface firmness.
3. Debris Removal
Remove leaves, twigs, and organic debris weekly. Organic matter can break down and affect ball roll.
- Use a leaf blower (best)
- Use a plastic rake (never metal)
- Use a shop‑vac for sand or fine debris
4. Surface Cleaning
Rinse the green monthly to remove dust and keep fibres fresh. For stains, use mild soap and water.
5. Fringe & Rough Maintenance
Fringe and rough turf require brushing to maintain height and realism. Brush every 2–4 weeks.
6. Seasonal Care (Ontario‑Specific)
Your putting green is fully winter‑safe. Follow these seasonal tips:
- Remove leaves before snowfall
- Do NOT use metal shovels
- Let snow melt naturally — no need to clear it
- Brush fibres upright in spring
