Pet Turf Installation Guide
A complete, step‑by‑step guide to installing artificial grass designed specifically for dogs — including base preparation, drainage, turf layout, seam work, edging, and finishing.
A proper pet turf installation is all about drainage, stability, and cleanliness. Your NO‑INFILL turf system makes installation simpler and long‑term maintenance easier — no rubber, no silica, no top‑ups.
1. Site Preparation
Remove existing grass or surface
Strip away natural grass, weeds, soil, or old materials to create a clean working area. Remove 3–4 inches of soil to make room for the new base.
Rough grading
Shape the area to promote drainage away from structures. A slight slope (1–2%) is ideal.
2. Base Construction
The base is the most important part of a pet turf installation — it determines drainage, odour control, and long‑term stability.
Add crushed stone base
Use ¾” clear stone or similar free‑draining aggregate. Spread in layers and compact thoroughly.
Final grading & compaction
Compact the base using a plate compactor until it is firm and level. Ensure water flows away from the home.
3. Optional Drainage Layer
For enclosed dog runs, patios, or concrete surfaces, a drainage panel or grid system can be added to improve airflow and liquid movement.
4. Turf Layout
Roll out the turf
Allow the turf to relax for 30–60 minutes so fibres stand upright and backing settles.
Position seams carefully
Align grain direction and ensure seams are straight. Trim edges cleanly using a sharp utility knife.
5. Seam Joining
Strong seams are essential for durability — especially with active dogs.
Apply seam tape & adhesive
Use high‑quality turf adhesive and seam tape. Press turf edges firmly into the adhesive for a tight bond.
Blend fibres
Brush fibres at the seam to blend the join and create a natural appearance.
6. Perimeter Securing
Dogs often test edges — secure them properly.
- Use landscape spikes every 4–6 inches along the perimeter
- Use edging or pressure‑treated lumber for clean transitions
- Ensure no loose edges remain
7. NO‑INFILL Advantage
Your pet turf system is engineered to perform without infill — a major advantage over traditional turf.
- No rubber or silica
- No infill top‑ups
- No compaction issues
- No infill migration into the house
- Cleaner, safer, and easier to maintain
8. Final Grooming
Brush the turf fibres upright using a power broom or stiff‑bristle broom. This gives the turf a natural look and ensures proper drainage.
9. Post‑Installation Tips
- Rinse urine areas regularly
- Use enzyme cleaners as needed
- Brush high‑traffic areas occasionally
- Inspect seams and edges annually
